ARTIST’S STATEMENT
Linda Thiel

I’ve always enjoyed drawing, painting, and art classes throughout my primary and secondary education. By 1991 the priorities of life opened up and I took up oil painting again. Artmaking adds calmness and stability for me. To be focused on something that brings me the joy I feel when I see a beautiful flower blooming in a garden or a bouquet for a special occasion.  The flowers I have painted are from the gardens I have visited and the photographs I have taken.  Painting allows me to relive the memories of travels and friends’ gardens that are generally the inspiration for my work. In addition to the botanicals, I paint animals, figurative,
and still life. My range is wide; however I enjoy watercolor the most for its fluidity and gentleness to the environment. I seem to always come back to watercolor and the excitement I
feel when the colors mingle.

I started Tole painting in 1996, then on to Watercolor in 1998. I went back to college to study Drawing and Design at Phoenix, Glendale, and Paradise Valley Community Colleges.I studied with Rosanne Bedore, Kathie Neal and took classes through the Society of Decorative Painters.

I divide my time between studios in Arizona and Minnesota. I am an active member of Arizona Artists Guild (Juried Member), Arizona Watercolor Association (Signature Status), Contemporary Watercolor Artists, Brush and Palette, and Red River Watercolor Society. My work has been exhibited in Arizona, Minnesota, and North Dakota.
