About the Artist
Scottsdale based Robin Woodworth, has been honing her skills in watercolor since her move to Arizona in 2013.
“My fascination with, and my passion for watercolor as my medium of expression was sparked by my move to the Arizona desert. I work mainly from my own photographs, trying to capture my subject’s subtlety and intensity of color and atmosphere; which can be reflective, mesmerizing, peaceful and awe-inspiring. Conveying that feeling with paint motivates me. I do a detailed pencil drawing, then apply multiple layers of watercolors, to draw attention to how the colors of light effect petals, leaves and spines. The dark backgrounds and negative painting in many of my paintings provide a mysterious environment for my more realistic Sonoran Desert flora and other subject matter.”
Robin grew up in Santa Barbara, California, graduated from the University of Southern California with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. Professionally, Robin was the owner of high-end women’s clothing stores for two decades, and then a Regional Representative for Sotheby’s International Art Auctions, and finally, the Executive Director for the Ventura County Museum of History & Art.
As a retired member of the Board of Trustees of the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix, Robin uses the Garden as a constant source of inspiration.
Robin is a Juried Member of the Sonoran Arts League, a Signature member of the Arizona Watercolor Association and a member of Contemporary Watercolorists of Arizona. Her award-winning work can be found in private collections across the Country and in Canada.
