Artist's Statement

After retiring from my long and successful career as an IT professional, I reignited my long-dormant passion for painting, and especially watercolor. By the time I was told that watercolor is the hardest medium, I had fallen inseparably in love with its luminosity and the way that paper and paint become one under the brush. I discovered that I especially enjoy painting people and animals, capturing them in those small moments of everyday life that reveal their true spirits and fleeting feelings. My goal is to transcend portraying the exact likeness of my subject and instead to capture its spirit and message at a given moment in time.  In my most recent work, I am extending this philosophy to tell intimate stories in the form of still life and landscape.
