BIOGRAPHY:

Educated in Michigan, Barbara Freedman earned her M.A. in Painting at Eastern Michigan University and B.S. in Art Education at Wayne State University. After moving to Arizona Barbara taught painting in the Fine Arts Dept. at Glendale Community College for 6 years. She now works as a Juror, Speaker, and Workshop Demonstrator. The past years in AZ brought more success for Barbara as she earned signature membership in the National Watercolor Society, Western Federation of Watercolor Societies, and Arizona Watercolor Association. Her paintings are featured in books and magazines including The Creative Touch 3, Chris Unwin, and Best of Watercolor II, Betty Lou Schlemm. Competitive shows have honored Barbara with many awards including Best of Show, Awards of Excellence and Juror’s Awards. Another highlight in her art career is her one person show at both Glendale Gallery, Glendale Community College and the West Valley Museum of Art, Surprise, AZ. She added digital photography in 2010 to her art endeavors.

PERSONAL STATEMENT:

"Interactions with other artists and students will always remain a part of my growth. The content of my paintings are based on my personal response to my surroundings whether traveling or in my studio. Symbolic motifs are often used to represent my images, especially a ladder and houses. Following visits to China & Japan the Pagoda and Kimono are a new symbol for some of my current paintings.”
